Coolest flower ever?

After my graduation from grad school last May I decided to reward myself with a trip to Pensacola, Florida to visit my best friend who had moved there a week prior to my arrival. One day during the visit we decided to take a walk around town and get to know her surroundings when we happened upon this neighborhood. At first glance we both thought it was a nicely kept park but upon further investigation we discovered that it was not a park but a very nice, very Edward Scissorhands-esque neighborhood with manicured lawns and not a gum wrapper in sight. Well, while we were walking and thoroughly enjoying our time together I came across this flower growing in one of the perfect houses on the perfect street. I know it has a name and I'm not the first person to discover this particular type of flower but I like think I did. I snapped a few shots of and here are the ones I like best. Enjoy!

There's a first time for everything

In an effort to do something that scares me and put myself out there a little bit more (an expression my mom loves to use) I have decided to start a blog. Many people have blogs and some are secret and some are not. Some are for the enjoyment of others and some are strictly an outlet for the author. I would like my blog to be an example of both. I would like to see who finds their way to my little blog and how it effects me to write one and share pieces of myself with perfect strangers.

The idea I had for this blog was to post a picture that I had taken and tell the story behind why I took the picture. Some of the stories are funny. (at least they are to friends and family who already know the stories behind some of my pictures) Others are representative of a time in my life that I chose to remember for one reason or another and others still are simply pictures that I took that I really like and would like to share.

So, I hope if you've found your way to my blog that you will take a look around, take it all in and maybe even come back someday. Here goes nothing!

Here's a shot of me trying something new-snails! While I didn't particularly care for them I was still glad to say that I had at least tried them and could say with confidence that, no, in fact, I didn't care for snails but thanks for offering.
